Fall Classic Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The exciting extended matchup where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined over 50 million spectators in the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB stated this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a 16% increase over the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-match series drew 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total US viewership reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different languages.
